Antoine Carbonne is a French painter living and working in Brussels.
He graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2011 and also completed a semester of study at Hunter College in New York in 2009. The words magical realism, even though it refers to a variety of art forms and movements, seem to embrace contemporary interests like hallucination dream and ecology which are dear to Antoine Carbonne.
Taking the form of a choose your own adventure book, his first exhibitions represent projection spaces in which everyone will be free to create narrative tension.
Large-format paintings allow this bodily immersion in landscapes with pure colors.
In 2023 he returned to the representation of human form as in the exhibition: "Fiction(s)" at the Valérie Bach gallery (Curated by JM Dimanche) then with the small format during "Side Quest" at the Romero Paprocki gallery (Paris). This last exhibition is explicitly presented as a comic strip without words. The installation "Mr Grateful" at the MIMA in Brussels is presented as a graphic poem that follows it (written by Samuel Belfond).
He has notably produced frescoes for public commissions, such as at the Villa Noailles (Hyères) in 2020, and private commissions, notably the Tour d'Argent (Paris) as well as the windows of the Hermès house in 2022.
